Louis Breland is the President and CEO of the Breland Companies, a regional real estate development firm based in Huntsville, Alabama. Breland has been in the homebuilding industry since 1975 and has developed hundreds of communities. In that time Louis has grown and sold Breland Homes, his homebuilding business, three separate times to publicly traded companies. His first sale was to Washington Homes in 1999, then to D.R. Horton 2012 and most recently to the Lennar Corporation in 2022. At the time of each sale, Breland Homes was the largest private builder in their markets in north Alabama and the Mississippi and Florida Gulf Coasts. In addition to homebuilding, Louis also grew Safe Mini Storage in to the largest privately held self-storage company in the region which was acquired by Sovran Self Storage, Inc. in 2006. He has also developed several office, hotel and commercial projects in Alabama, Georgia and Florida. 

Today, Louis is developing several commercial and mixed-use projects and has re-entered the self-storage market with ten locations in Alabama and Mississippi. Breland’s mixed use portfolio includes three of the hottest commercial developments in the southeast - Clift Farm and Town Madison in the Huntsville metro area as well as Fischer Crossing outside of Peachtree City, Georgia. Each have each attracted national and regional tenants such as Costco, Bj’s Warehouse, Kaiser Permanente, Duluth Trading, Outback Steakhouse, J Alexander’s, Starbucks, Publix, Verizon, Chick-fil-A and many more. Town Madison and Clift Farm are distinctly different 500+ acre master planned communities featuring over 5,000 residential units across multi family, townhomes and single family detached products.  

Louis is married to Patti Breland and they have two children and three grandchildren. The Brelands are active members of the community supporting causes that aid children, first responders and wounded veterans. In 2018, Louis received the Excellence in Leadership and Service award from the Madison Chamber of Commerce in recognition of his work on behalf of the north Alabama community and he was recognized as the 2023 recipient of the Heart of the Community award by the American Heart Association for his and Patti’s philanthropic efforts.
